Mostly just wondering if anyone has seen or noticed weird maintenance decisions a tech has made before. This is mostly an excuse to complain about my own personal grievance because I think the situation is mostly funny.
I got my 90s Jasper cyber several years ago directly out of a store (never touched the dumpster, Not disclosing what store it was from out of a privacy concern) and when I got him home and started disassembling him to see what needed to be done for him I noticed a tech at that store at some point had tried to fix a crack in his plastic body shell and decided to use fiberglass to patch the crack, sounds like a great, easy fix right? Well they fiberglassed it TO his metal frame
Like half of his shoulder bar is covered in fiberglass and resin.
It’s been six years almost and I still haven’t been able to get it off. It doesn’t help that they didn’t do a great job of fixing the crack itself and moreso covered it and I have hurt myself on its sharp exposed edges unintentionally 3 times trying. I just got him back out of storage to pick back up as a project and I’ve been trying to figure out how to get it off without destroying the body shell or damaging the shoulder bar because I know I’m gonna need it off to be able to work without obstruction at some point. Since he never touched another collector’s hands and was mine as soon as he was out of the building I know it was something the tech did and it just kind of makes me sad about the lack of time/budget techs had when maintaining the stage, because this could’ve been fixed so easily if not just replaced. Even though the fiberglass thing makes me really frustrated as a collector I think it’s such an interesting part of this bot’s history that makes me wonder about all the people who took care of him before me at the store. it’s not the only part of him that his been repaired with resin or fiberglass that’s for sure.
Anyone else, bot owner or otherwise ever seen anything like this? Strange paint job maybe? Would be interested to hear other’s experiences ![]()
