Ok, So I was looking through each of the first 3 PTT commercials and saw that the Animated Commercial didn’t have any new info on it’s wiki page. And then I Had a Theory. There is NO mention of the ad (to my knowledge) in ANY PTT document from late 1978-1980 (Or technically ever), which is odd since the other 2 Commercials are mentioned.
Alongside this, Some Cels look incomplete and it’s strange we have SO many in one collection. (Typically Animation Cels are usually not in such good condition and together neatly in produced works; especially during the late 70’s)
So my theory is this. What if the Animated Commercial was Never finished/Aired?
I think this could be a reason as to why info on it is so hard to find, as it wouldn’t have been produced and hence no one could remember it.
I also think It’s possible PTT or Colossal Pictures (Who I think made the ad), may have scrapped it before it could air. with PTT possibly rejecting it as it didn’t showcase the Animatronics most likely, which PTT wanted to showcase (See the Great All American Pizza Show Commercial).
PTT also only produced 1 Rat Tales Comic Book as well around this time ,so they may have been wanted to trim down the amount of non PTT produced Animated/Drawn Material.
Also the Page on the Commercial needs a rework, it’s very old and contains the History of it as found by the fandom and not on the Commercial Itself.
I mean, you can fix it. It’s a wiki anyone can help. But that is a good theory. Honestly personally I believe it. Makes more sense with how little anything is mentioned including from PTT which you’d think would of made some sort of reference to it in the Pizza Times
Ok, Update. There is mention of an Animated Commercial in the Pizza Times Volume 1. Didn’t remember it was there, but even then, These two commercials may not even be the same, and the previous info I had still makes this ad a mystery.
Also the Pizza Times contain so little info that It’s kind of hard to say what it is.
It’s possible they could be test animations? I really only say that because I’m pretty sure the cels were found and kept by a PTT employee at the corporate office during the move from Sunnyvale to Irving. Seems weird the cels would leave Colossal Pictures at all. Or maybe CP just let them have them as keepsake. Still a very interesting theory!
I think thats likely. Since they seem to not be tied to some general theme, it’s possible they are just Cels used to test animating PTT characters (Maybe for the Birthday TV Spot mentioned).
Also we don’t know where Damon got the Cels, at least He’s never said where to my knowledge, possibly meaning they weren’t from Corporate but I’d have to check to see for sure.
I found the clip of Damon saying something about the cels. He technically doesn’t say it was sent to the corp office so I’m not really sure how it ended up in with the employee
This is actually not confirmed. The Great All American Pizza Show Commercials aren’t directly tied to the Animated Spot for what we know, as the Commercial storyboards use Animatronics instead of Animated Chuck & Jasper.
This doesn’t mean the Animated Commercial Didn’t use the slogan or even one of the song variations, but It’s not confirmed and seems unlikely.
