so obviously i’m a BIG animatronic buff, but part of the reason why i’m into animatronics in the first place is fnaf, so it holds a special place in my heart.
with that being said, this was not my favorite movie.
from a fnaf fan standpoint, i loved the eanimatronic action in this movie. i loved the death scenes- some of them were so ridiculous i laughed, but they were very creative with the deaths. i loved the voice acting as well- matpat as toy bonnie was hilarious, and megan fox kinda ate as toy chica. i thought toy freddy’s voice was kinda weird, but i liked it. the makeup was also really good in this movie. the references were also hilarious, and everybody was not messing around. balloon boy’s head was removed like a screw, and that was hilarious.
from a movie critic standpoint. . .what the heck. it feels like they switched writers every 5 minutes, and the plot was everywhere. mike s. was a total douche for the entire duration of the movie, and the timeline and lore hurt my head. toys, circus baby, then fnaf 1??? where does the bite of ‘83 fit into all of this, or the bite of ‘87? mike a. was extremely inaccurate- “oh i’m related to william so i’m gonna kill people” ??? that goes the exact opposite direction. it felt like with every passing minute he just got worse and worse. vanessa was still trying to overcome trauma, and mike was like “bro stay away from me” after she tried to redeem herself and care for mike and abby. it was also really weird how they tried very hard to explain there being the withered animatronics at a location that supposedly came before the other one…”yeah these were prototypes for the next animatronics and they actually only made them for parts” do they realize how much money it costs to make an animatronic? how many resources it takes up? all the coding and wasted time just to make spare parts on animatronics they won’t use? just make the spare parts. the whole concept of this is really weird- “yeah these obviously higher tech animatronics came before these lower quality animatronics so they just decided to make them worse for funsies” ??? what ??? i’m so confused. also, why is charlotte evil? i understand that she was frustrated due to her murder but the mischaracterization was insane. she wants to get out and hurt people?? no, she just wants to make afton pay for what he’s done. it was nothing like she was in the games.
from a biomed student standpoint, i was very flabbergasted at the lack of injuries on abby when the puppet left her body. think about it- in sister location, when michael afton swallowed ennard, ennard had to hollow out his organs in order to fit, and it’s literally just a bundle of wires, and even then it was a tight fit. michael threw ennard up extremely violently. people could visibly tell something was wrong with him, and he turned purple. with abby, she just swallowed the puppet like a pill. how does this even work?! the puppet is about the same size as ennard, but a full-on animatronic instead of wires. she’s extremely long, with elongated limbs. i’m not going to go into the grisly specifics, but i drew diagrams on my phone trying to figure out how this would work (it wouldn’t). and all she had to say was that she felt like she ate a bag of gummies??? genuinely flabbergasted. also, how did the puppet get into vanessa at the end?? she was nowhere near her mouth. …
i also think having the 3rd movie at fnaf 3 is weird. the entire lore of the 3rd game is that there’s a gas leak and springtrap’s there. the idea of it seems boring, but hey, i could be proved wrong.
overall, i think it was a 5/10. the lore was everywhere, the timeline gave me a migraine, but i liked the animatronics and megan fox.
