The Mediawiki Move (2024-09-13)

Hello user! Cheese-E-Pedia has moved from Miraheze to being a statically generated Hugo site. This provides many benefits for customization, article formatting, and easy archival of the site for offline use. Let's go over changes and expectations for what this entails.

## Additions

- **Locations Map -** A full map for all location articles when you visit the locations page. Each marker can be clicked to go to that store. There are sliders that let you change the map's date to any day in the past 40 years, which will show you which locations were open at that time.
- **Better Design -** The site now has fully custom infrastructure and CSS designed to fit the wiki's needs. All the Mediawiki bloat has been removed for the essentials. Images that were previously haphazardly placed have now been properly formatted to fit into automatic thumbnail and gallery sections.
- **More Info When Browsing -** All page links now feature a full thumbnail preview and dates. Lists can now be browsed per company/manufactuer with the top dropdown menu, or have all pages displayed at once.
- **Easy Photo Viewing -** The new photos tag allows sorting through photos from each company, reading their descriptions, and clicking them to see every page they're displayed on.
- **Easily Forkable and moddable! -** The site is now hosted on a {{< github >}}, which lets you easily fork the site's contents and host it on DigitalOcean for $0! If the site is ever abandoned or I die, it can be reinstated and have work continued like nothing ever happened. This also allows offline copies to be available for archival or browsing without internet! Take Cheese-E-Pedia on your camping trip encase you encounter a scary robot bear and need survival tips!
- **Smaller Site Size -** The original site took up almost 8gb in space. The new one is now down to 800mb.

## Expectations

- Be aware, the site is in early access and there may be some weird stuff and adjustments to be made. These are going to be ironed out as soon as possible, or changes you can help contribute. It was needed for the site to switch early so the daily updates could switch over and be worked on- or we would have never had a chance to move!
- In relation to article dates and map placement, stuff will be weird for a while! A lot of articles are going to say "1984-Present" and the like when something may have closed in 1990. There was a lot in the automatic conversion process of each article that missed a lot of key dates. It is up to the admins and contributors to make an effort to correct those in each article so the site can be more accurate!

## How do I edit?

- Same as usual! Go to an article and hit the Edit Page button. This will take you to GitHub to edit the exact file. You'll have to make a GitHub account first. After that you'll submit the changes and we'll either comment on any changes or pull it through to the site! Changes won't be instant like they used to so we can review them.

## What can I do to help this transition?

- **Fix Article Parameters! -** Go view the tutorials on how to edit the new articles, and help fix all the parameters that need to be filled in like dates, locations, remodels, ect. This will immediately make browsing more useful and reliable.
- **Help with CSS! -** If you're someone with CSS experience and notice some wonky designs on the site, especially on mobile, feel free to edit [the CSS file right here!](https://github.com/The64thGamer/cheeseepedia/blob/main/themes/sixtyth-fortran/assets/css/main.css)
- **Patience! -** We're doing this all for free and for the love of the community, so give things time to be ironed out! The wiki was originally very shotty for a while until it had time to work on things.

Chuck E. Cheese Announces Expansion Plans for the UK and Guyana (2024-12-11)

CEC Announced on December 9th it would be setting out plans to expand its stores to the United Kingdom, noting the UK's "expanding redemption game market". CEC stated that both the UK and Europe are now key markets for the brand.
Six stores are planned, being in Milton Keynes, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and Bristol. Within these areas the chain is looking for shopping centers, retail parks, and leisure parks with car park frontage. The locations will be between 10,760 - 16,145 sqft and an eaves height above 13.1ft. Locations will be in areas with more than 25,000 kids under 12yo within a 20 minute drive. Wright Property will be overseeing the expansion.
CEC also announced its planned expansion into the South American country of Guyana. Multiple stores are planned, with J's Group of Companies being the franchisee for the endeavor.

Animatronics Fandom Open Census Poll (2024-12-13)

A current poll is being passed around the animatronics community to gather simple anonymous data and info about the composition of the community and their baseline interests. As of writing almost 350 responses are already in.

- [The Form](https://forms.gle/TFX9yTTxA3yNU8Pp6)
- [The Results](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HZlKX0d2IKptBxjqMRj9doNDL8uSBQMzV4md6BJilYE/edit?usp=sharing)

The poll's results are fully public and open for analysis. 7 hours since the start of the poll it has garnered feedback about the questions asked to include more options and ones better fit for accurate assessments.
I am thinking about integrating polling into the site with better questions so the community can be polled frequently (like every quarter or 6 months) to start aggregating how things are going. Community reviews will eventually make it to articles as well so users can review stores, showtapes, characters, merchandise, food, ect.

Foursquare City Guide, host of many Chuck E. Cheese store reviews and photos, begins shutting down today. (2024-12-15)

Foursquare's review site City Guide is shutting down its app today, December 15th, and plans to shut down its web version in early 2025.{{< cite 1 >}}
The site is known for many exclusive images of Chuck E. Cheese and other animatronics related locations, which needs to be archived for the future. Almost none of the pages have been saved on the Wayback Machine, though this has been worked on since the announcement.
The best way to archive the pages in bulk is to search for "Chuck E. Cheese" and an included state, then save the page with all outlinks to capture every store it finds.{{< cite 2 >}} If you're wanting to save the photos manually, you'll need to open the "All Photos" link on the store pages in a new tab, as clicking on them is currently broken.

The MMBB set is $75 while the Chuck is $30. They are set to ship by July, though an article on them states they're set for April. This is one of the first pieces of merchandise to be directly of the CEC animatronics, rather than the characters.
CEC confirmed later in the day that the songs played through the stage are "Let's Have a Party", "Together We've Got It", and "Chuck E.'s Place".

Bull Airs Cancelled Billy Bob Nike & SneakerHeadz (2025-01-21)

On January 16th Bull Airs would tease a Billy Bob SneakerHeadz production sample. This would be used to pitch to Creative Engineering a potential ShowBiz/Rockafire Bull Airs line consisting of at least the known SneakerHeadz and a custom Nike shoe.
On January 20th, the post would be updated, noting that they were unable to secure the license from Creative Engineering, though it is not stated the reason why. Later on images of the sneaker would leak.

Cantagallo, Chile Chuck E. Cheese Store Installs Animatronic Ad Above Storefront (2025-01-30)

The {{< wiki-link "Lo Barnechea (Cantagallo), Chile" >}} store, which opened in December of 1994 with a {{< wiki-link "1-Stage" >}}, today put up a sign on their storefront advertising "Show De Animatronics" alongside a render of the band. With Chuck E. Cheese corporate's acknowledgement of animatronic shows being limited to inner-fandom announcements, or brief press talks, this sign becomes an oddity among the company's branding.
The sign, being put up by the store itself, and not any sort of marketing by corporate to brand it as one of the {{< wiki-link "CEC Legacy Locations" >}}, was led to by the announced closing of {{< wiki-link "Santiago (Plaza Oeste), Chile" >}} in November of 2024, which sparked discussions between local fans and employees of both locations to try and restore the animatronic shows. Since then Cantagallo has had its show slowly repaired and restored, now worthy of being advertised outside the store. The restoration is being carried out by Ame, Isi, and an unnamed third person alongside the store's tech, which started as volunteer work but is now having pay offered. {{< cite 1 >}}

‘Tu Eres La Estrella En Chuck E. Cheese’s’ Is Now Found Media! (2025-02-05)

On February 4th, the lost Spanish version of Birthday Star '92, which played in Chile up to 2008, was uploaded by CEC Fanchile to YouTube{{< cite 1 >}}
While snippets of the live show have been heard in home videos, no full rendition or rip of the audio was heard until this week. The live show has been known for a long time to have been released on a cassette in Chile in the mid 1990's as {{< wiki-link "Tu Eres La Estrella En Chuck E. Cheese's" >}}, meaning it was eventually going to surface online. One copy was found in 2020, but was gatekept and not released. On January 30th, 2025, CECFanchile would announce they had also obtained a copy and was preparing to rip it, where it is now found media after all these years.
The hope is for one day to have the proper showtape versions of the live with signals surface online, though with the extremely limited copies of the tapes compared to North America's variants, it's likely they are lost to time.

Justin Ishmael Announces 2nd Ever Rock-afire Explosion Album, Set For April 12th (2025-02-06)

Justin Ishmael, producer of the {{< wiki-link "Vinyl 7' Billy Bob Figure" >}} in 2019, is now partnering with Terror Vision Records to produce the second ever Rock-afire Explosion vinyl album, {{< wiki-link "Original Dreams: Songs from ShowBiz" >}}. The album is set to release on 'Record Store Day', which for this year is set on April 12th.{{< cite 1 >}}

The album will feature songs from when the Rock-afire played in ShowBiz Pizza, rather than their later 90's Family Entertainment Center offerings and post-millennium internet songs. The songs will be ripped from their highest quality source, something Aaron Fechter had already been working on since moving all Creative Engineering assets to the {{< wiki-link "Creative Engineering Workshop" >}}. The album's art will feature photography and easter eggs from the ShowBiz era, alongside cover art that can be swapped out to present multiple different characters.{{< cite 1 >}}

Justin said the album has been in development for 8 years, which is backed up by Aaron stating in May of 2017 that the song "Too Shy" was going to appear on the album.{{< cite 2 >}}

The album will be first to hit local record shops before being widely available. Justin encourages fans to call their local stores to ensure they have this album on release day. They also said more information will be available closer to release.{{< cite 1 >}}

The current tracklist is:{{< cite 3 >}}

- Welcome In To ShowBiz
- Banana Hill
- Goofy Gas
- Dragstrip In the Sky
- Mardi Gras City
- Sittin' Too Long
- Magic Keys
- Don't Say Howdy

Ontario, Canada (Dixie Rd.) CEC Confirmed As New Legacy Store! (2025-02-09)

Today, David Mckillips and Mark Kupferman confirmed that the {{< wiki-link "Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (4141 Dixie Rd)" >}} would be keeping its animatronics through the {{< wiki-link "CEC 2.0 Remodel Program" >}}, making it the sixth of the {{< wiki-link "CEC Legacy Locations" >}}. The store hosts the {{< wiki-link "Road Stage" >}}, rounding out the legacy lineup with another stage type. Kupferman commented on the store stating that they wanted to keep a stage in Canada, and given it was the last {{< wiki-link "Road Stage" >}} in existence it was a good fit.
Additionally, another Canadian store, {{< wiki-link "Willowdale, Ontario, Canada (2452 Sheppard Ave)" >}}, will be keeping its special Pizza Time Theatre Chuck E. statue through its remodel, though it will not be keeping its 2-Stage.

‘Chuck’s Arcade’ branded Funspot Arcade Opening in Mall of Georgia (2025-02-13)

Chuck E. Cheese's Funspot Arcade initiative started in 2022 and has been reaching various mall locations throughout its run. The latest venture, being at the Mall of Georgia located in Buford, GA (3333 Buford Dr.), has propped up on their website under a new variant called {{< wiki-link "Chuck's Arcade" >}}. The logo features styles and character designs from the 80's branding- referred to as the "Classic" designs by CEC.
It is currently unclear if this will just be a standard Funspot with a different logo, or if it will be adorned with 80's arcade machines, decor, or potential fixtures from that era's Pizza Time Theatres. While Funspot has never been advertised directly by CEC, it will be interesting to see if this location will be used as a way to broaden the brand's image, or if it'll be merely something known only inside the fandom such as the {{< wiki-link "CEC Legacy Locations" >}}.

‘Chuck’s Arcade’ Confirmed As New Rebrand For Funspot Arcade (2025-02-15)

Two days ago a mysterious "Chuck's Arcade" would appear on the Simon Mall's website scheduled to debut at the Mall of Georgia. While it was clear this was a variant of Funspot Arcades, it was unknown if the location would feature different machines or decor.
Last night Mark Kupferman would start an impromptu live QNA in the 'Chuck E. Cheese Fandom' Discord server, where among the many questions answered was clearing up the confusion surrounding the arcade. Later this morning he would sum up his answers in a reddit comment:

- "Hi everyone. Here are a few answers to questions I've gotten about Chuck's Arcade.

  What is Chuck's Arcade?
  It's a new concept we're using for mall-based arcades. These are just arcades---no pizza, no live entertainment, no nostalgic artwork, and no animatronics.

  Why isn't it called Chuck E. Cheese?
  We're keeping the Chuck E. Cheese name for our family-focused venues designed for younger kids. Chuck's Arcade is aimed at older kids, teens, and adults. It's a fresh take while still giving a nod to Chuck.

  Is it retro or modern?
  The name, logo, and some of the decor have a retro/Chuck vibe, but the games themselves are cutting-edge and totally modern---so think new-school fun, not a nostalgia fest.

  Why is it called Chuck's Arcade?
  We felt that our original name, "Funspot Arcade," didn't tie back to who we are. Chuck E. Cheese is actually the largest operator of arcades in the world (we have almost 50,000 games!), and Chuck's Arcade is our way of bringing that expertise to new locations. The name connects it to us without confusing people into thinking it's a full-sized Chuck E. Cheese.

  Why did you use a look reminiscent of PTT branding?
  We appreciate our history and loved the chance to create something that ties back to it. The look is meant to harken back to our past while still embracing the modern gaming experience that today's gamers are looking for. It's a little nod to where we came from, while staying focused on where we're headed.

  Is Chuck's Arcade exclusive to Simon Malls?
  It is not. But Simon Malls is a great partner, and we look forward to opening the first Chuck's Arcade at the Mall of Georgia in Buford."

Outside of clearing up the general confusion and hopes of fans, the main things to take away is that Funspot is simply getting a brand overhaul, which includes heavier CEC branding and in-store theming. This will be how the arcades open in the future, though it has not been said if previous arcades will be remodeled to fit this new look. This push may also bring the arcades to be properly advertised by CEC through its various platforms, though this remains to be seen.

CEC Beta Tests New Website, Which Includes Wrong Info (2025-02-16)

Today it was found a new CEC website is in testing to overhaul the look of the main site. It is unclear how long this new site has been up (the earliest Archive.org snapshot is from February 12th), or how viewers are supposed to organically find it.
This site tries to personalize its contents based on your set location, which mostly means auto filling specific text with the store name. This sets the first problem with the site, as when viewing the "What's New" page with any store, it will claim the location has received the {{< wiki-link "CEC 2.0 Remodel Program" >}} or the {{< wiki-link "Trampoline Zone" >}} even when it has not.
But what's egregious about the new site is its new "Our History" section, which tries to set a world record for misinformation. (It was later found that this comes from the current site's "About Us" page in a small blurb, which has been blown up to be the whole section now) The first two sections going over the first location are fine, but it quickly derails:

- "1980 - First live appearance - The iconic and beloved face of Chuck E. Cheese makes his first live appearance in stores."
  - The first Chuck E. mascot walkaround appeared at the first location during pre-opening either during May 3rd-5th, 1977, or in the first documented photo on May 16th. Every store since has had a walkaround. The photo used is also from 1984, not 1980
- "1986 - First international location opens - Chuck E. Cheese becomes a global sensation by expanding to the first international location in Guatemala City."
  - The first international location opened in March 1981 in Australia as {{< wiki-link "Charlie Cheese's Pizza Playhouse" >}}.
- "1994 - A fresh new look - Chuck E. Cheese receives a fresh new look appealing to families of all ages."
  - The exterior remodel in the photo started in 2004.
- "2011 - Last ball pit removed - Ball pits are no longer a part of the Chuck E. Cheese experience and instead new games and attractions are added."
  - Some official international stores still have ball pits.
- "2016 - Play pass is introduced - Play Pass & Play Bands take the place of traditional tokens. The tap-to-play game card system provides an easier, more convenient, and cleaner way to play."
  - Play pass started in 2014.
- "2019 - New fun center renovations - A fresh, vibrant, and contemporary look that is appealing to kids and kids at heart with new games, attractions and more!"
  - 2.0 Remodels started in July 2017.

Everything past this is fine, if you don't count the bootleg Pizza Time Theatre logo on the page, or Jasper's miscolored banjo. Thankfully this site hasn't been merged to the main one yet, and hopefully these glaring issues can be fixed!

Lost Rock-afire Songs Leaked Online (2025-02-28)

A new set of lost Rock-afire songs were leaked by YBP on February 25th, consisting of various 90's segments- and a lost segment from the {{< wiki-link "Celebration Birthday Tape" >}}. The rips of the tapes are by RockafireFan123:

- Stevie's Birthday (Celebration Tape)
- Turtle Power
- American Pie
- Shake Your Tail Feathers
- You Got the Right Stuff

The segments had been in circulation by a small group for a few years, before finally being uploaded by YBP to YouTube. Others followed with files of uncompressed audio. There was a bit a fuss with the songs being uploaded, as they like almost every single Rock-afire show that has been uploaded in the past 20 years comes from a set of countless items that Snapper stole from Creative Engineering's warehouse in the 2000's, still being passed around and sold by Snapper. While Aaron Fechter has publicly decried acquirement of these stolen materials, he has never litigated any involved in the two decades since. Many lost materials are still exclusively on these items in circulation, and are likely to continue being slowly leaked piece by piece for years to come.
Update: as of February 28th, another lost 90's segment has been uploaded by Pikalove, "Down on the Corner".

CEC Legacy Locations Move To 3-Stage Programming, Local Showtape Ads Now Appearing (2025-03-21)

On March 21, 2025, all Cyberamic {{< wiki-link "CEC Legacy Locations" >}}, which include {{< wiki-link "Northridge, CA (8425 Reseda Blvd)" >}}, {{< wiki-link "Hicksville, NY (Delco Plaza 11-15 Hanover Place)" >}}, and {{< wiki-link "Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (4141 Dixie Rd)" >}} will now be using 3-Stage signals.

This began with {{< wiki-link "Northridge, CA (8425 Reseda Blvd)" >}}, which actually began testing the signals in September of 2024. Each of the stores have now recieved a new EPROM chip to convert 3-Stage signals to Cyberamic signals, which are not in the exact same configuration as the {{< wiki-link "CEC-Stage Rosetta" >}} had them. Currently noted are that eyelids, head ups, and Munch/Pasqually arms have inverted movements- meaning eyes are closed when they're supposed to be open. This is due to how movements are designed differently between stages. Northridge's tests did not include this bug except for the head-ups being inverted. The {{< wiki-link "Navori System" >}} now just has a single playlist for both types of legacy stores, which also forces the Cyberamic stages to use the 3-Stage diagnostics, which can be unhelpful with the miriad of unused or reformatted movements.

Last week all legacy stores were told to disable their random movements in the settings, reasoned to 'prevent maintenance'. This EPROM chip now disables that directly from startup, though it can still be manually toggled on. Another issue is that the settings also accidentally turned on the red and blue floods by default on startup, which keep them on until disabled. 3-Stage stores also recieved a similar EPROM chip on March 11th that auto-disabled random movements.

On top of all this, all stores will now have their ads in-between showtape segments set to region-specific ads- something planned since the very rollout of Navori. This began rollout sometime in early March. It is currently unknown how many regions there are, or what stores inhabit which region. It was also rumored during the 2022 roll-out that local area ads would play, though it is unknown if this has taken effect.

Pasqually’s Shutting Down, Grown-Up Menu Discontinuing, Chuck’s Arcade Merch, & More. (2025-03-22)

On March 21, 2025, CEC would internally announce changes set over the coming months.{{< cite 1 >}} First would be the shutting down of Pasqually's Pizza & Wings at the end of the month, which was an online delivery service started in March of 2020 for CEC restaurants to compete and stay open during COVID 19. The service would receive criticism at the time for following the ghost kitchen trend, where its rebranded name would obscure that customers were buying from CEC (Often in the public considered to be lower quality pizza than usual delivery offerings). CEC would claim this was unintentional, but never rebranded the service to fit customer expectations. Pasqually's exclusive delivery offerings were later moved to the Grown-Up Menu in 2023 to be available in-store.{{< cite 2 >}}

The second announcement was also the discontinuation of the Grown-Up Menu- set for mid to late April of 2025. This also includes the Chile Lime Rub and Korean BBQ Wings. They are countering this by changing the color of their Dippin' Dots and passing it off as a new menu item.{{< cite 1 >}}

More news came from various internal discussions, including plans to launch classic Chuck E. Cheese merchandise at {{< wiki-link "Chuck's Arcade" >}}. It is unclear what this will be, rumoring from just t-shirts to new-old stock of classic prize counter items from storage. Additionally, the test of Bella's Snack Shop at {{< wiki-link "Garland, TX (4992 State Hwy 190)" >}}, which is a snack stand consisting of popcorn, churros, nachos, and pretzels, has been delayed in further rollout for unknown reasons. It was originally set to test further at the beginning of the month, though it has seemingly not cancelled as corporate is still mentioning the test.{{< cite 1 >}}

New Info on CEI’s Upcoming Volo Showtape (2025-04-22)

Since early 2025 it has been known around the fandom that Creative Engineering has been in the works of creating a brand new showtape for the Volo Auto Museum ({{< wiki-link "Volo, IL (27582 Volo Village Rd)" >}}). On April 21st, 2025 this would be announced more widely to the public with a first part release of the ongoing {{< wiki-link "Creative Engineering Premium Video Service" >}} behind the scenes series on the making of the tape.

Multiple things are now known about the tape through this:

1. The tape is fully brand new and professionally produced, no reuse of older material. Instrumentals are also performed and not ripped from other artists' covers.
2. Shooter Jennings will be replacing Fatz's voice, rather than how Aaron has in the past.
3. Ted Camp is playing bass, Zach is playing guitar, and Brian is playing guitar and keyboards.
4. Aaron wants this to be the start of the Rock-afire coming back, with more to come.
5. Showtape is set to release in the Summer.

Premium members already have access to more of the parts however, as these were recorded back in February. This alongside correspondance with various employees has given additional information about the tape:

1. The show is completely themed around cars, matching Volo being an auto museum. The tracklist is:
    - Fun, Fun, Fun (Beach Boys)
    - I Get Around (Beach Boys)
    - The Little Old Lady (Jan & Dean)
    - Mustang Sally (Wilson Pickett)
    - Little Red Corvette (Prince)
    - Pink Cadillac (Bruce Springsteen)
    - Cars (Gary Numan)
    - 409 (Beach Boys)
2. The tape's length will be 12 minutes total. The songs will be separate segments and not part of a medley.
3. Rolfe will sing one of the songs.
4. Despite recording starting in February, the tape's audio is still not complete. Programming however has started early with the original songs to go off of, having gone through 20 iterations so far as its upcoming programmer, Rock-afire Zone, is being trained by Aaron. Programming is currently being done in {{< wiki-link "RetroMation" >}}, but hopes are for {{< wiki-link "The Rock-afire Simulator" >}} to have programming functionality ready by audio completion to record there, as it will be formattable to the system Volo uses. If this doesn't go to plan a converter will be used on the RetroMation '.rshw' file.

Rare Ronald Mcdonald Animatronic Up For Auction On May 3rd (2025-05-01)

A Ronald animatronic is set to go live for auctioning on May 3rd, part of the original {{< wiki-link "Ronald McDonald in a Hot Air Balloon" >}} line of store displays made by Setmakers and AVG Technologies in 1984. Its said a few were created- but only one has been confirmed from Glendale, CO.
The starting bid is at $500, though its original appraisal back in 1999 was $2k-3k, which is set as its expected price on the site. The animatronic did have a showtape that is currently fully lost, but it is not included in this auction.

Animatronic Fan Poll 2 Starts! (2025-05-30)

Six months later and we now enter the second Animatronic Fan Poll! This is to give a census on the general demographics and opinions of the fandom, and as they change over time- since this will hopefully be done every half year.
Keep your results devoid of any identifying information, as the poll results are publically shared so the community can analyze and study the results. Most questions are multi-choice, but there are chosen answers you can voice your opinions directly in. If you have none you can skip most, or they'll have a 'neutral/not me' option.

Site Changes: Work in Progress! (2025-07-22)

**Cheese-E-Pedia** is going under some format changes so that it is easier for users to edit the wiki and find information about their favorite locations! We're also heavy in transcribing showtapes and other media; more details below.

## Markdown comes to Cheese-E-Pedia! 🎉
Forget ```<b>bolding</b>``` text like this, when you can do ```**this**``` instead! We wanted to make sure that the editing experience was as simple as possible, so you don't need to learn HTML to write a page. So, here we are introducing **Markdown**. You might be familiar with Markdown from Discord -- so this should be a welcome change and a seamless one at that!

We'll be updating our {{< wiki-link "Contributor Home" >}} once the rollout is complete. You might see a few pages that don't look correct, and that's because we used a script to convert the pages. Feel free to edit any that are off!

Markdown does not support all things, like underlining, or subscript, so you may need to still use HTML tags for those features.

You can use this [link](https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/writing-on-github/getting-started-with-writing-and-formatting-on-github/basic-writing-and-formatting-syntax) as a reference in your journey to writing with Markdown! We hope that this makes things easier for you, especially when...

## Transcriptions are on a roll! 🖊️
Over the past few days, {{< wiki-link "Luigigamin212" >}}, {{< wiki-link "CyberSnout" >}}, and {{< wiki-link "The 64th Gamer" >}} have been submitting transcriptions of their favorite showtapes. You can see these from the showtape page, but you can also check out {{< wiki-link "Transcriptions" >}} to see what we have currently available!

The conversion to Markdown has made this even easier to achieve; editors no longer need to memorize confusing tags and formatting.

We have a lot to get through, but with your help we can achieve this! For more information, feel free to join our Discord server.

## Locations, locations, locations... 📍
One of the reasons we moved to Hugo is that we wanted location information to be uniform, clear, and concise. Locations make up over half of our existing pages.

In our Discord server, our most active editors are wrangling existing data from the existing wiki pages to consolidate random fluff and unmoderated nonsense into concise details.

Our goal is to have location pages generated using parameters and links to video pages, stage shows, and animatronics, removing a lot of the "filler" content that people have added that is either not factual or blatantly copied from page to page. Here are some of the ideas we've floated around:

* Using Hugo templates to automatically provide links to stages and animatronics, eliminating stage and animatronic tables from Miraheze that vary in format, and have broken links or inconsistent terminology, leading to a poor/confusing browsing experience.
* Eliminating video tables/links from location pages, ensuring that all videos are instead provided through the "Videos" section of the page, making it easier to see all videos in one spot.
* Fill in some gaps in our data using parameters -- especially {{< wiki-link "Concept Unification" >}} show conversion dates, stage changes, latitude/longitude for the {{< wiki-link "Locations" "Locations Map" >}}, franchise dates, etc.

The Location Articles Reset (2025-09-06)

Important news! All articles tagged under 'Locations' have had their main article and citations reset. This is due to a majority of them not living up to the current standards of the wiki. Most of these were sped through by one person, who didn't leave many citations. Location articles also leave a lot copy-pasted, which have made them rigid to any wiki standards changes.

Don't worry though! We know there are still lots of location articles that do meet wiki standards. These can be resubmitted manually for moderators to fully approve, alongside making changes to them which will be discussed further below. If you need to access an old location article for reading or for resubmitting, you can [view all of them here.](https://github.com/the64thgamer/cheeseepedia/tree/main/locations_archive) Current pages also still have in-tact all their parameters, galleries, videos, ect.. Many of these were also updated before the wipe, as we pulled all of them into a spreadsheet to mass-edit things like opening dates.

## What's Changed?

First take a look at {{< wiki-link "Cincinnati, OH (8801 Colerain Ave)" >}} as the guide to this new locations formatting. Note how most info is now displayed right inside the infobox, rather than spread throughout the article. Information such as arcades, animatronics, stages, remodels, franchisees, ect., are now parameters to use. Some of these parameters display in the infobox, while things such as arcades and animatronics, which could be a bit more lengthy, are automatically put inside the article.

In the best case scenario, the majority of important information should be directly in these parameters. The actual article should mainly consist of its short 1 sentence intro, and then a 'History' section that can go into more depth. This history section also shouldn't just be 'Opened, got this stage, got this stage, got this remodel, died'. This should be used to discuss special events the store took part in, whether any of its remodels/stages used early prototype or novel features, times the location made it in the news, condition of its stages over time, etc. Separating the copy-paste generic info and the in-depth unique history is important to making these articles easier to ingest.

## Other New Stuff

Additionally, some small fixes to the site have been committed. A new 'Loading. . .' text appears when waiting for article lists to load (I know some users got confused seeing a blank list for a few seconds). Some css changes on location pages have also been made. Infoboxes also now don't require an image to display properly. The parameterization of the locations articles will also let us in the future (whenever anyone gets around to it) generate tables or charts on arcade/remodel/stage pages to list where they were located or the trend of how long each lasted.
