For those that are unaware, it was recently found by Angsty Owl that SPP Faith/Dreams/Kids had an advert that played which had previously not been seen before (as we don’t have a full rip of the tape). It goes:
‘Something different is happening at ShowBiz on Saturdays. [Rooster crowing, indescernable noise] What’s more fun than Saturday mornings at ShowBiz? A birthday party breakfast at ShowBiz. [Children cheering]’
Now we still don’t have video of the ad, but recently CEC Master remembered seeing something relating to it and linked an article that’s really helped figure out what this was. Its basically all the info you could hope for an article to spill.
- The breakfast program was a test-market initiative limited to a few stores in 1988 and expanded to all Dallas-Fort Worth locations by 1989. Article takes place September 8th, 1989.
- The store in the article was North Richland Hills, TX (7935 Grapevine Hwy)
- Menu items include:
- Pancakes w/ bacon and a drink ($2.50)
- ‘Sunrise Sandwich’, a biscuit w/ eggs, sausage, and cheese, served with ‘alphabet-shaped french fries’ and a drink. ($2.25)
- French toast sticks ($2.50)
- Cinnamon Rolls ($???)
- Drinks:
- Orange juice, apple juice, coffee, and milk.
The ad itself still needs to be tracked down, and I hope this article inspires some to continue looking for it!
