David Mckillips Steps Down as CEO, Replaced with Scott Drake

David Mckillips, CEO of CEC who replaced Tom Leverton back in 2020, who sadly walked in during the middle of COVID and then a bankruptcy, but then also proceeded to fumble around for 6 years dragging the brand’s feet at any possible turn (especially 2021-2023, where the brand was basically on auto pilot), has FINALLY stepped down.

Replacing him is Scott Drake, who had joined around the same time as Mark Kupferman as Chief Financial Officer in 2024. Unlike Mark, Randy, or David Deck, who are other executives the fandom is aware of or who have interacted with the various PR stunts, Scott is basically a clean slate, and its unsure what his intentions with the brand will be.

Unlike the rest of CEC which consist of Six Flags executives, Scott comes from roles at Farmer Brothers Coffee, GameStop and 7-Eleven.

No immediate game plan was set out in the press releases, and likely any things that were already set in motion will continue as they were this year (unless he’s bold enough to immediately steer the ship a new direction). Scott is replacing David on February 12th officially.

Things to look out for in terms of Scott’s change in planning will be the funding of the Entertainment Department (please spare Matt and give him some budget to make shows), the expansion of active play in CEC’s, the launching of further Adventure Worlds, the launching of Chuck’s Arcades, global expansion, merch licensing, the CEC TV series, and his stance on AI.

I think the community should rightfully take this with an open mind and see how this goes. Be aware that some bold claims will likely be made that won’t come to immediate fruition, like David claiming for 6 years a CEC movie would happen. Otherwise, hope the brand actually does better from this! We are @BankruptcyBelievers because under David’s direction the brand was always going to spiral, but at the end of the day we want the company to succeed and keep all of its workers with a stable job.

I’ll end with David’s ‘i got voted out by the board of directors and all i got was this lame t-shirt’ message:

After six amazing years, I am stepping down as President and CEO of the most spectacular family entertainment and restaurant company, CEC Entertainment. I have enjoyed every day of my tenure here and feel that it is a great time for a transition, with a fantastic leadership team in place, strong momentum in the business, a solid strategy for 2026 and long-term plan in place.

We accomplished a lot together—overcoming Covid-19, a bankruptcy and debt restructuring, a complete brand transformation, remodeling nearly 500 Fun Centers, launching new brand extensions and LTO’s at Peter Piper Pizza, opening locations in new countries globally and solidifying Chuck E. Cheese as one of the next major entertainment IPs with our recent animated special.

What I’m most proud of is the commitment we made to our people, being named in U.S. News & World Report Best Companies to Work For, our Glassdoor ratings leading the FEC category, along with the lowest turnover in a decade. We prioritized our people who put our guests first—a perfect combination, and I know the best is still to come!

To my family and all the partners, friends, Cast & Team-members I’ve worked alongside with, especially this incredible Leadership Team! I sincerely thank you for making this purpose-led company the most amazing experience ever!:pizza::heart:

Dear CEC team,

As you absorb the news of this transition, I want to stop and thank David for his incredible leadership over the past six years. He has guided us through some of our most challenging times to bring us to one of our most successful and dynamic periods in company history. I know you all stand with me in wishing him all the best, and we all look forward to seeing where he lands.

I also want to say how excited we are about continuing our momentum with Scott at the helm as president and CEO. He has a proven track record of financial excellence and strategic vision, having strengthened our balance sheet and positioned us for accelerated expansion. Scott, we have total confidence in you and know you are the right person at the right time to lead this incredible team.

With our momentum building, a best-in-class leadership team in place, and our iconic brands resonating with families worldwide, we are poised to capitalize on tremendous opportunities both domestically and internationally.

The foundation David built, combined with Scott’s comprehensive understanding of our business and our team’s unwavering commitment to innovation, sets the stage for an exciting new chapter of growth and success. We have a lot to look forward to as a team, and I thank you all for your hard work, dedication, and passion for our brands.

Well there’s one thing I want Scott Drake to do, and that’s to give us the 2 TV Series and that movie that are in the oven right now.

Update, it has been leaked that CEC is once again looking for another buyer. Shits gonna get rocked this year

Dear CEC Team,

In my New Year’s note, I mentioned going into this year with “no ceilings,” and I’ve taken that to heart. I’ve always pushed myself outside my comfort zone to take on new challenges, and I’ve made the decision to do that. Today, I am announcing my resignation from CEC Entertainment.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure here and I feel that I’m stepping away at a great time with a fantastic leadership team in place, strong momentum in the business, a solid strategy for 2026, and long-term plan in place.

I am pleased to share that CFO Scott Drake will be the president and CEO, and I hope you’ll join me in wishing him all the best in this new role.

I’m excited to see what this amazing team can do next for the Chuck E. Cheese and Peter Piper Pizza brands. We accomplished a lot together—overcoming Covid-19, a restructuring, remodeling our Fun Centers, launching new brand extensions, opening locations in new countries and solidifying Chuck E. Cheese as one of the next major entertainment IPs with our recent animated special.

What I’m most proud of is our commitment to our people. We have been named in U.S. News and World Report’s Best Companies to Work For, our Glassdoor ratings lead the category, and we have the lowest turnover in a decade. We prioritized our people who put our guests first — a perfect combination, and I know the best is still to come.

I’m not yet ready to share my next steps, but please know I’ll always be cheering you on!

David’s email to all stores as well

thank god, there’s a shot now at serious realignment of strategy.

I do not know since the new CEO has a clean slate.

imagine being mentioned in the files so you immediately get off of your pedistal lmao

I’m honestly relieved David is gone but horrified that Scott is in. Scott was the financial leader for GameStop and look how they did. This gives me no hope for the future. Especially if they go cost cut heavy and let Mark ruin the brand with AI slop and argumentative and bad takes against children on the internet. You know, I’m not a finance guy. But the children with their Chuck E. Cheese pajamas eating their Chuck E. Cheese cereal will never happen with these two.

I mean I hope that Scott might do something for the corporate in the future by removing AI.

For some reason David removed paragraphs 2 and 3 from his statement lauding his accomplishments.

this is true but honestly leading the company into bankruptcy is kinda better than having a predator be the CEO of a child-based company, just sayin’. . .
